SOMETHING IN THE DARKNESS
Something in the Darkness is a picture book written by John Dougherty and illustrated by me, out September 15, 2026, from Post Wave. Here’s a link to buy it!
Synopsis:
As night falls and strange whispers seem to follow your every step, the question lingers – what’s out there in the dark? Packed with suspense, this unputdownable story will keep young readers on the edge of their seats, eventually revealing that some things are more frightening in the darkness than they are in the light.
This book was made a bit differently from the other books I’ve done. I made the art with inked line art on paper and digital colors, which is pretty typical for me, but the art was then converted into a limited palette of just a few Pantone colors. The printer then used those files to print the art for the book. The result is that the colors have a more retro aesthetic, at least to me, which I really enjoy.
I’m also happy to say that my art from this book was selected for inclusion in the Society of Illustrators’ annual “Original Art” show in NYC.
